Here we have a luxurious set of antique porcelain comprising 5 pieces: four round platters 27x 25 cm and one large oval serving platter 32x25. England. Late 19th century. Possibly Coalport. Unmarked. Some of the plates bear a serial number. The decoration is executed in a striking combination of deep cobalt blue, white porcelain and lavish gilding. Around the rim are elegant cartouches with delicate bouquets of roses and wild flowers, framed by intricate gilt ornament in the Rococo style. The shaped, wavy edge and raised gilt details give the pieces a particularly ornate, almost palatial character. In the centre of each platter is a fine gilt radiating medallion that ties the composition together beautifully. The hand-painted floral decoration against the rich cobalt is very striking and accentuates the decorative quality of the set.
